Stony Plain Council Approves 2025 Spring Budget
Council approved the 2025 Spring Budget Adjustment, reducing the tax increase from 7.41% to 6.71%, resulting in a $153,000 tax reduction for residents.
Joint Trail Connection Nears Completion
Stony Plain and Spruce Grove announced the final phase of their Joint Trail Connection project, creating pathways between the two communities. Phase III involves paving the southern trail segment.

Lowest Tax Rates in Edmonton Region
Parkland County maintains tax rates amongst the lowest in the Edmonton region. The 2025 budget included a 2.5% municipal tax increase with strategic capital investments in roads, water infrastructure, and Wabamun projects.
New Municipal Development Plan Adopted
Following 60+ hours of community engagement across 20+ open houses, Parkland County adopted a new 30-year Municipal Development Plan establishing vision for growth, recreation, and environmental protection.
Updated Land Use Bylaw
Parkland County adopted a new Land Use Bylaw after 90 hours of community engagement. The updated bylaw reflects the inclusion of Wabamun and consolidates districts for increased flexibility.
Drayton Valley & Brazeau County
Mayor and Community Recognition Awards
Drayton Valley held its Mayor and Community Recognition Gala, honoring outstanding community members across nine categories including Arts and Music, Business Achievement, Community Spirit, and Excellence in Athletics.
Provincial Funding for Stormwater Project
Brazeau County received $748,230 through the Drought and Flood Protection Program for the Hill Top Stormwater Improvement Project, which will divert stormwater to natural drainage outlets.
Bylaws Passed for Cynthia Development
Brazeau County Council passed bylaws for the Hamlet of Cynthia, including rezoning five county-owned lots from Urban Reserve to Hamlet Residential to support community growth.
Mayerthorpe & Lac Ste. Anne County
Fallen Four Memorial
Royal Canadian Air Force fighter jets conducted a flyover at the Fallen Four Memorial Park in Mayerthorpe to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 2005 shooting that took the lives of four RCMP officers.
West End Bus Purchase
Lac Ste. Anne County joined Mayerthorpe and Woodlands County in purchasing a new 15-passenger West End Bus for $83,990 to serve seniors in the region. LSAC also funded dock repairs at Corsair Cove Boat Launch.
2025 Council Election Results
In October 2025, all incumbent Lac Ste. Anne County councillors were defeated. In Division 6 (Mayerthorpe area), Jurgen Preugschas was elected, unseating incumbent Ross Bohnet.
Yellowhead County
Major Land Acquisition for Growth
Yellowhead County acquired approximately 1,850 acres of land on the county's west side as part of a long-term sustainable development strategy. The purchase, completed after over five years of collaboration with the Province of Alberta, aligns with plans to build a robust economy, enhance tourism, and support the Jasper/Hinton Airport as an economic driver.
Environmental Farm Plan Workshop
An Alberta Environmental Farm Plan Workshop was held in Drayton Valley, hosted by Brazeau County and Farming Forward. The free event helped farmers identify environmental risks and prepare for funding opportunities like AgriInvest and the Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program.
